She graduated in Biological Sciences at the Universidade Federal de Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and obtained her Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology at the same university. Her post- doctoral training was at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (USA). She is currently advisor to the Research Director at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA), and professor of Genetics at UFRGS. Research topics include gene therapy for mucopolysaccharidoses, bioinformatics and systems biology, bioethics and genetics, and molecular diagnosis of genetic diseases. She was an affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences from 2008 to 2013.
