Dr. Roberto Giugliani, MD, PhD, is a medical geneticist with specialization in inherited metabolic diseases. He is Full Professor at the Postgraduate Program of Genetics and Molecular Biology of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, and member of the Medical Genetics Service and the BioDiscovery Laboratory of Hospital de Clinicas, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He is Head of Rare Diseases at Dasa Genomics, and Executive Director of Casa dos Raros. He is Coordinator of the Brazilian National Institute of Population Medical Genetics (INAGEMP), Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Inborn Errors of Metabolism and Screening, Chairman of the Latin American School of Human and Medical Genetics (ELAG), and Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He is past president of the Latin American Society of Inborn Errors of Metabolism and Newborn Screening (SLEIMPN), Latin American Network of Human Genetics (RELAGH), and Brazilian Society of Medical Genetics and Genomics (SBGM), and former Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for the Development of Medical Genetics Services. Prof. Giugliani’s main interests are concentrated in the field of inborn errors of metabolism, being author of more than 600 scientific papers.
