Ignacio ZARANTE
Bogota, Colombia
Dr. Zarante is Full Professor of basic genetics and medical genetics at the Institute of Human Genetics of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He is also the coordinator of the Surveillance and Follow up Program for children with birth defects in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. He is also the coordinator of the Center for rare diseases at the Hospital Universitario San Ignacio and is the president of the Colombian Association of Medical Genetics and Genomic Medicine (ACMGEN). Dr. Zarante studies the prevalence and risk factors associated with the birth defects. He belongs with his team to the International Clearinghouse of Birth Defects (ICBDSR) and the Latin American Collaborative Study of Congenital Malformations (ECLAMC). Dr. Zarante has been Director of the Department of Physiological Sciences (6 years), Medical Genetic Residency Coordinator (12 years), Director of the Human Genetics Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (3 years), Director of the Office of Research of the San Ignacio University Hospital (4 years), Vice President of the Colombian Association of Human Genetics (2 years), Scientific Advisor of the Forensic Genetics Laboratory of the DIJIN, National Police (10 years).
