Chemistry-Pharmacy graduated from the Universidad Veracruzana (Jalapa, Veracrúz, México). Dr. Ortiz received the M.Sc. and D.Sc. in Molecular Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL, Monterrey, México). A training program in Molecular Biology at Pediatric Cardiology Department, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. Currently is a full-time professor at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Tecnologico de Monterrey, México. She is Senior Investigator (Level 3) of the Mexican Science and Technology National Council, full Member of de Mexican Academy of Sciences, the Mexican Society of Human Genetics and the American Society of Human Genetics. Her research work is directed to  1) Understand mechanisms that induce to an epithelial-mesenchymal transition in the tumor, 2) Detection of Molecular biomarkers discovery for early diagnostic in cancer 3) Evaluation of chemotherapy or target therapies for cancer in organoids and 4) Implementation of System Medicine strategies for complex diseases.
