Dr. Sans is an Anthropologist (1983), and holds Master (1991) and a Doctoral (1994) degrees in Biology (Genetics) (UDeLaR-PEDECIBA). Dr. Sans currently is Full Professor of Biological Anthropology at Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay. She also is Coordinator of the Degree in Anthropology, Researcher of PEDECIBA and member of the National System of Researchers. She was Director of the Bachelor in Human Biology and Coordinator of the Institute of Anthropology; President of the Uruguayan Society of Genetics and the Latin American Association of Biological Anthropology, and Vice-President of the Latin American Association of Genetics. She received the "Most distinguished academic award" from the ALAB (2018). She has published more than 100 articles, books and book chapters, mainly on the human populations of Uruguay and the region, indigenous ancestry and miscegenation.
