Carlos Frederico MENCK

Dr. Carlos F M Menck is graduated on Biology and PhD on Biochemistry, both at the University of São Paulo, where he is now Full Professor. His main research interest is the study of mechanisms cells deals with DNA lesions and he has focused on DNA repair and mutagenesis in mammalian cells. His group studies DNA repair related diseases and how defects on DNA repair may lead to cancer and aging. Part of his work also aims to understand how cells respond to DNA damage promoted by tumor chemotherapeutic agents in order to improve efficacy for therapy. He was past president of the Brazilian Society of Genetics and Brazilian Mutagen Society. He is a Senior Investigator of the Brazilian National Research Council, full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and of TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences). He was awarded the Commander-Class of the National Order of Scientific Merit, by the President of the Republic of Brazil.
